Mental Health Justice

Series: The Bible & Social Justice

Rooted in both clinical expertise and spiritual insight, this powerful presentation confronts the mental

health crisis within the Black community and the Church. It unpacks the stigma, trauma, and systemic

barriers that prevent many from seeking care, while urging a rethinking of mental illness as more than a

spiritual shortcoming. Topics include intergenerational trauma, underdiagnosis, and the harmful perception

that faith and mental struggle cannot coexist. With biblical examples and a call for open, honest

conversations in faith communities, the message promotes a holistic path to healing, through therapy, self-

care, prayer, and supportive relationships. A timely and faithful call to make mental wellness part of the

Church’s ministry of love and justice.
